AASB of ICAI Issues Revised Exposure Draft of Guidance Note on Audit of Banks

ICAI Audit of Banks

The Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AASB) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), under the authority of the ICAI Council, is in the process of issuing the Guidance Note on Audit of Banks (2026 Edition), which is published annually to provide comprehensive and practical guidance to auditors undertaking statutory audits of banks and bank branches.

As part of its standard-setting and consultative process, AASB has now released the Exposure Draft of the proposed 2026 Edition for public comments. The draft aims to incorporate updated regulatory developments, evolving audit practices, and emerging areas relevant to bank audits, thereby supporting auditors in effectively discharging their professional responsibilities.

AASB has invited comments and suggestions from members and other stakeholders to ensure that the final Guidance Note reflects diverse professional perspectives and practical considerations. The last date for submission of comments is 23rd February 2026, and stakeholders are encouraged to review the Exposure Draft and share their feedback within the prescribed timeline.
